New Resources on Mental Health

Two new resources are now available to help faith leaders better understand mental illness and treatment as well as to better help individuals and families in their congregations who face mental health challenges.

The American Psychiatric Foundation has produced a 20-page booklet “Mental Health: a Guide for Faith Leaders” and a companion two-page “Quick Reference on Mental Health for Faith Leaders.”

“Individuals and families facing a mental health concern often turn first to a faith leader,” says Curtis Ramsey-Lucas of the American Baptist Home Mission Society (ABHMS). “

These resources are designed to help pastors and other faith leaders dispel misunderstandings, reduce stigma associated with mental illness and treatment, and facilitate access to treatment for those in need. They are clear, concise and much needed.”

The resources are available for free download at APA’s website at www.psychiatry.org/faith.
