Hello, Friends! We so enjoy knowing what is happening in the lives of our ABCCONN congregations. Please email Jaimie directly about your upcoming events and other announcements at jcrumley07@gmail.com. We are now accepting announcements about events that will happen from November 2019-January 2020. We are especially eager to know what Christmas-season events our congregations have planned, so please let us know! Thank you! |

Dear Friends, the ABCCONN Mission Scholarship Committee needs to know what mission trips are being planned by our sister churches in 2020. Our goal is to enable young people who long to go on a mission trip to afford it when it might not be possible otherwise. We also try to connect people with mission trips other churches are sending when their home church is not doing one. Last year we gave out four scholarships of $500 each. Please email mission trips you know about to our Chair, Susan Honeychurch at shoneych5@gmail.com. Many thanks! Grace & peace in Jesus Christ, The Rev. David Reed-Brown, Interim Pastor, Central Baptist Church in Norwich.
Please see the message below from our friends at White Cross during this, their 100-year anniversary year: Dear Partner in Mission,
The White Cross ministry binds us together by the ongoing work of Christ through your participation. Thank you for continuing to engage others in your region and for helping to grow White Cross giving. International Ministries’ (IM) global servants could not fulfill many of the ministries God has called them to without you.
This year is a special milestone as we celebrate 100 years of White Cross from 1919 to 2019! I extend sincere appreciation on behalf of IM leadership for your faithfulness.
Additionally, this year International Ministries marks our 205th year in responding to the call. White Cross is a superb example of what faithful service, financial support and prayer contributes to God’s mission. Thank you again! For 2019 we invite you to reignite the enthusiasm around White Cross into the next century by engaging others to achieve $205,000 in White Cross gifts in IM’s 205th year of global service. Last year you have already contributed over $174,000 dollars for White Cross projects and if each region works together to achieve the recommended goal for your region, hundreds of people will share in the love of Jesus through your generosity.
Coming by mail to each region is a 100 year Certificate with a small token of gratitude for your region’s faithful commitment to White Cross! One of the best ways to honor and recognize the many women who have dedicated time and energy relentlessly for many years is to see the next generation follow your example by serving and this year enjoy celebrating 100 years of White Cross ministry. Thank you so much for affirming the importance of White Cross and the rich legacy that long precedes us all.
To make it easier for you to promote and grow participation in White Cross ministries to an even broader circle of friends all the information you need is available digitally and on IM’s website at https://www.internationalministries.org/white-cross/ so you can share by email. You will also notice two simple choices for working with your hands: baby kits for Congo and baby layettes for Nicaragua.
For groups that want paper copies of your package, we are happy to send them upon request. Email zdripps@internationalministries.org with your name, complete mailing address, phone and quantity you need for your group. White Cross received a total of $174,225 during the fiscal year Oct. 2017–Sept. 2018. We share in the confidence of the apostle Paul when he wrote ”you will be enriched in every way for your great generosity.” 2Cor. 9:11 The ABCCT’s suggested goal for 2019–2020 is $3,000.
Thank you for being a part of our mission team.
With joy and blessings, Zofia Dripps Associate Executive Director for Mission Advancement |
Monthly Free Lunch & Lecture at Yale Divinity School Wednesday, December 4th, 12:00 PM YOUTH MINISTRY IN AN ERA OF OVER-PARENTING: Moving from the Thing to the Story featuring Dr. Andy Root, Carrie Olson Baalson Associate Professor of Youth and Family Ministry, Luther Seminary
Join us Wednesday, December 4th at Yale Divinity School for Yale Youth Ministry Institute's final Lunch & Lecture of Fall 2019. Lunch will be served at noon followed by the lecture at 12:30 pm. Details about this month's lecture are below!
Youth workers know what it is to watch parents and youth participate in multiple other activities. Most families have limited time and space for youth ministry activities or youth group. Often parent(s) (and youth) express desire to participate, but say they have no time. A parent might even say, “Sorry, we haven’t gotten her to youth group in the last six months, it’s just that gymnastics is kind of her thing; it’s really who she is.” This can be frustrating for youth workers. Some respond by contending that youth ministry needs to up the commitment level and move higher up the ranking of things. In this presentation, we’ll together explore how this approach can’t work, because the decisions parents and young people make exist inside very deep conceptions of what makes for a good life. In a time of limited time and unlimited options, youth ministry can’t—and I’ll show, shouldn’t—compete in ranking of important activities. Youth ministry should not be just another thing (like basketball, violin, or debate club). Instead, we should turn toward story to reimagine what youth ministry can be for. Please RSVP on EventBrite |
