Trailblazing through the Wilderness: ABCCONN’s 196th Annual Gathering Highlights

Sep 30, 2020 | Denominational News & Information, Resources & Links

Thank you for joining us for ABCCONN’s 196th Annual Gathering. It was truly a blessed experience and although virtual, a testament to our ability to pivot when circumstances demand it.

We began the week with two nights of Healthy Church lectures by remarkable speakers, Rev. Dr. Sarah Drummond and Rev. Dr. Almeda Wright. Their presentations challenged us to lean into our faith to handle uncomfortable situations in order to lead our organizations through interesting times.

We were also excited to hear 3 stories as a part of our Historical Turning Points feature each day. These pre-recordings are embedded in the Annual Gathering recording and were made possible thanks to the Historical Committee.

The Annual Gathering included recognition of ABCCONN leaders, a word from Immediate Past President Bill Mathis and Interim General Secretary Jeff Woods, highlighted great stories from our 2019 mission scholars, and an update on Camp Wightman among other activities. Read Pastor William Mathis’ President’s Farewell Address (Heal the Land) here.

Missed one of the lectures or any part of the Annual Gathering? Not to worry. We recorded every event last week for your convenience. Below please find information on how to access the recordings, including links and passwords. Please note that these recordings will live on the drive and be accessible until December 31, 2020 at which point they will be downloaded and archived accordingly. You are encouraged to watch them using the information below until then.

The event would not have been possible without your support and prayers. Special thanks to all who played a part of bringing this to fruition.

Subject: 197th Annual Gathering-Register TODAY!

Registration is NOW OPEN for ABCCONN’s 197th Annual Gathering and we want to “see” you there! Though we’d hoped to gather in-person, due to the ever-evolving pandemic concerns and out of the safety of everyone, we’ve pivoted to a mostly virtual experience you DO NOT want to miss*.

The event will take place online on Saturday, September 25th from 9am-12pm est. This year’s theme is I in Them, and You in Me, Complete Unity (John 17:23)

The cost to attend is only $25.00. You can register here. Be sure you’ve remitted your $25 registration fee. (Indicate ANNUAL GATHERING in the special projects/missions line.)

IMPORTANT NOTE ON ANNUAL GATHERING BUSINESS MEETING:
All ABCCONN family and friends are invited to attend the Annual Gathering for a time of worship, inspiration, fellowship and learning. The Business Meeting portion of the Annual Gathering, however, is limited to church delegates. ONLY delegates from each ABCCONN Church will be voting. To that end, please note:

1.Please choose one delegate from your church, who will participate in the ABCCONN business meeting

(one delegate per 100 active members of each individual ABCCONN church, (if a church has less than 100 active members, that fraction is to be rounded up to one delegate), according to the paragraph below

2.Minister(s) from each participating church are delegates.

3. No church shall have more than 5 additional delegates.

It is strongly encouraged that each ABCCONN affiliated church participate with the Vision and Mission of ABCCONN, “ Together Embodying God’s Love “, and live out that commitment as a church by participating with ABCCONN , complete the annual report, attend events , providing leadership to ABCCONN, send delegates to the Annual Gathering, and give financially by supporting American Baptist United Mission.

The Annual Gathering is Saturday, September 25th! Join us for this mostly virtual event. Register TODAY!
